Missing Japanese videocassette front coverIt has finally happened. In 2004, this politically-charged thriller has been finally released on DVD! It is available in the US, and now Japan and Germany are following in 2005. The existing videos and laserdiscs are of substandard quality, both video and audio, but the DVD looks great (widescreen presentation!!!). The sound is only Dolby mono, but it still sounds better than what we have been dealing with for so many years. What is strange about the US DVD is that there is no menu screen! There is not a great deal of Vangelis music here (although he recorded an album's worth as evidence by a recent bootleg released in 2001), but what is here is quite effective, given the frightening content of the fact-based film. I hope someday this will see a restoration. Also to note, there is a small snippet of music from "No Oyes Ladrar los Perros?" in this movie, but with the speed of the track increased. [Thanks to zygaja for the scan of the Polish DVD, to Panu Talus for the scan of the UK DVD and to Reinhard Teibl-Beckmann for the scan of the German DVD].
