Vortex Greek DVD front coverHere is an almost-forgotten film from 1971 called Vortex by famed director Nikos Koundouros. This film marks a very early inclusion of an Aphrodite's Child song, "The Four Horseman", in a movie, and I wish there was some background on how that happened! The movie is an absolute trip. It simply blends story and film-making, with no distinction between either. The film crew regularly appear in scenes, and the movie concentrates a great deal on the dissolution of the fine line between art and artist. And the inclusion of the Aphrodite's Child track is absolutely bizarre. Let's just say I've never seen a wax pencil used with such a dizzying effect. It was quite baffling. The movie requires repeated viewing, to say the least.
