Let the arguments begin! Does Vangelis really play on the first two albums by Chrisma? Does anybody really care? Well, I do! I am a true believer. While I am sure that Niko Papathanassiou can play some instruments, I have listened to his production work with numerous other artists and none of it sounds like this. While Chrisma belongs to two wonderful people, Maurizio Arcieri and Christina Moser, the sound is Vangelis. Just listen to the CS-80 throughout these albums! These recordings were made at Nemo Studio, with Keith Spencer Allen handling engineering duties. At the Albedo Convention in the UK a couple of years ago, Mr. Allen was asked if Vangelis performed on these albums, and he apparently could not recall. Chrisma themselves say yes (and you can read about it by clicking here [disabled]. There are two early singles, "Amore/Sweet Baby Sue" and "U part 1/U part 2" from early 1977, and then a more punk-influenced sound appeared on their 1977 album "Chinese Restaurant" and their 1979 album "Hibernation". Chrisma did some vocal work on Vangelis' "See You Later" in 1980, and that was the end of the working relationship. They changed their name to Krisma and, like other bands of the era, dropped the hard edge and performed more pop/new wave music. Unlike other Italian bands that Vangelis worked with in the past, Chrisma sang in English, and were able to get some music released beyond the borders of Italy.
