Earth French LP reissue with his name in red and white letteringVangelis was near the end of his early 70s stay in Paris. In 1973, Vangelis recorded Earth. Vangelis was finished with Aphrodite's Child, but was somewhat in limbo, wanting to continue experimenting but still not wanting to fall into a formula like Aphrodite's Child.  There are moments of both on this album, using Robert Fitoussi (aka FR David) as the vocalist on several tracks. The album also holds interest to Vertigo label collectors, and there is indeed one Vertigo swirl label issue of Earth that even most Vertigo label collectors do not have or even know about, coming from Italy. There is a single release as well for this album! Who says Vangelis isn't a singles artist?

There is a different quote on the back cover of the USA pressing, as follows:

"Vangelis O. Papathanassiou is best known in America as founder, leader and composer with Aphrodite's Child, who in 1972 produced the double-LP "666", now regarded as a classic. "666" dealt with the end of the world and was based on the Book of Revelations in the New Testament. That album has been called a work of extraordinary music and lyrical complexity. In marked contrast to "666" is "earth", the LP which you are now holding. "earth" is his contemporary interpretation of ancient music and rhythm of Greece, his native land. The title of the LP is Vangelis' way of indicating the primitive roots of the album. There is nothing mystical about "earth"; it is simply the work of a creative mind putting his personal stamp on music that existed before the time of Jesus Christ" --- George Knemeyer (who's that?)
